What to Do if You Forget iPhone Passcode?

Forget iPhone Passcode: There are a lot of times when due to certain issue or problem you tend to lose your passcode, which can result in sometimes you device getting disabled.

If after multiple attempts to you are unable to remember your password, you will have to erase your device, which will result in all your data being deleted along with the passcode of your iPhone or iPad.

This is also one of the reasons you must have a backup of your data so that in situations where you have to delete your data you have a backup of it and you do not lose out on your data. 

 Once you have erased your device and its data, you can easily restore your iPhone data without any issues. However, if you have not backed up our data, you will not be able to restore anything if you forget your passcode. 

How to Remove your Passcode?

The process of removing the passcode will require a computer so make sure you have one or borrow it from some friends. Also, make sure that your device is not connected to your computer. There are different ways for different versions of the iPhone or iPad. So choose your device and follow the below-given steps. 

For iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and iPhone X or later

For the above-given devices, removing the passcode will require you to follow the given steps:

Step 1: Turn off your device by pressing and holding the side button along with the volume button. A slider will appear when you press both the buttons simultaneously. Drag the slider and the device will turn off.

Step 2: While holding the side button, connect our device i.e iPad or iPhone to your computer. 

Step 3: Hold the side button, till the iPhone recovery mode is visible on your device.

For iPad with Face ID

Step 1: Turn off your device by pressing and holding the top button along with the volume button. A slider will appear when you press both the buttons simultaneously. Drag the slider and the device will turn off.

Step 2: While holding the top button, connect our device i.e iPad or iPhone to your computer. 

Step 3: Hold the top button, until the recovery mode is visible on your device.

For iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation)

Step 1: Turn off your device by pressing and holding the side (or top) button. A slider will appear when you press the button. Drag the slider and the device will turn off.

Step 2: While holding the volume down button, connect our device i.e iPad or iPhone to your computer. 

Step 3: Hold the volume down button, till the recovery mode is visible on your device.

For iPhone 6s or earlier, iPod touch (6th generation or earlier), or iPad with Home button

Step 1:

Turn off your device by pressing and holding the side (or top) button of your device. A slider will appear when you press the button. Drag the slider and the device will turn off.

Step 2:

While holding the home button, connect our device I.e iPad or iPhone to your computer. 

Step 3:

Hold the home button, till the recovery mode is visible on your device.

While the above method of reaching the recovery screen is different for different devices, the further process is the same. Locate your device on the computer you have connected your device to. When you see the restore or update screen, choose to restore. 

Once chosen the Finder or iTunes will download software to complete your restore process. If the process takes more than 15 mins, you will have to restart the recovery process again right from the start and repeat all the above steps. 

If everything goes well, and your device starts to recover itself, wait for the recovery process to complete. Once done you can restore your backup to your device and set up your device right from the start. Your device will be ready for use without a passcode.
