Before we move towards the procedure, we might look into the history of this particular feature that is Hide photos in iPhone and iPad. Apple has developed Hide Photos option back in iOS 8. After getting positive feedback from the iOS users, Apple has improved this feature in iOS 9, this time, the user can select and hide multiple photos.

However, there is a loophole even after improvising the feature. The Hide Photos option only enables you to hide photos from the Moment, Collection and Year, but once you tap on All Photos/Album, the hidden photographs can be seen again. Therefore, it results that even if you hide photos via hiding Photos option, you could not truly hide photos on iPhone and iPad.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to truly hide photos on iPhone and iPad, but you can use a specific method using Notes App which would hide photos and protect them via password. In the following article, we have provided two different methods, the first one will be IOS method, and the other is a workaround to get your photos truly hidden on iPhone and iPad.

Hide Photos on iPhone and iPad (iOS Technique) 

The following method will help you hide single or multiple photos on your iOS device. Follow the steps mentioned below in order to understand the complete guideline.

 

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Next, open the photos Album where photos are stored
  3. Now, look for the ‘Select’ option provided at the top right corner, tap on it.

  • Next up, you need to select the photo that you wish to hide and then select the Share button from the left corner of your device screen.
  • Next up, you will be redirected to a window where you will be asked to select one of the options from the Share Option, tap on the Hide option from there.
  • At last, you will be asked to provide a final call when a pop-up appears asking you to confirm the selection to hide photos on your iOS device.

Note: As we have stated earlier that this method would only hide photos from collection, moments and years and can be seen once you tap on All Photos or in Album.

How to unhide Photos on iPhone and iPad (iOS Technique) 

Follow the steps mentioned below to unhide photos that are hidden on your iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Next up, click on the Album and search for the hidden folder.
  3. From the hidden folder, tap On the Select button provided at the top right corner.
  4. Next up, choose the photographs that you want to convert from hidden to unhide segment, and thereafter click on Share icon provided at the left corner of your screen.
  5. From the next window, select the ‘Unhide’ option to unhide photos on your iPhone and iPad.

That’s all, this way you can unhide photographs; and those photographs now would be seen in Moments, Collections and Years in the Photos app.

How to truly hide Photos on iPhone or iPad. (Workaround) 

The above- mentioned methods will only hide photos from Collection, Moments and Years in the Photos app. It means that those hidden photographs are still visible if someone opens up the Album folder on your iOS device. Apple doesn’t provide any service that indeed hides photos. You can try locking the photos or password protect them using Locked Notes. This way, no one except you will be able to see the photographs as it requires a password to be entered.

Follow the steps mentioned below to truly hide photos on iPhone and iPad using Locked Notes and Password Protection.

  • Launch the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad
  • Next, open the Photos Album where all that photos are stored which you want to hide.
  • Now, click on the Select option provided at the top right corner.
  • Next up, choose the photo that you wish to hide and tap on Share icon provided at the bottom left corner.
  • In the next window, you will find a list of sharing options. From those options, select Add to Notes.
  • Next up, a pop-up would appear, you need to tap on Save option in order to store the selected Photos to the Note app.
  • Now, launch the Notes app on your iOS device and tap on the Notes which has photos saved
  • Once the selected Note opens up, tap on the Share icon provided at the top right corner.
  • Now, from the next window, select Lock Note in order to lock the Note that has your photos stored.
  • Now, provide a password to Lock the particular Note and tap on OK.

That’s all, the photos in Note are entirely hidden. There is no way to make them visible as the Note Is password protected. The only way one can access the Note folder if one knows the password to unlock the Note that stores hidden photographs.

However, the photos app still contains the original copy of your hidden photographs. Therefore, you must delete the photographs from the Photos app as well as recently deleted folder before anyone tries to sneak into your device.

Congrats, you have reached the point from where only you will have access to see and get back the hidden photos on your iPhone and iPad.

Follow the mentioned steps below to get back the hidden photos in the Photos app from Notes.

  • Launch the Notes App on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap on the Notes in which you have kept the hidden photos.
  • As you have earlier locked the Note, you need to provide the password to unlock the Note.
  • Next up, Note gets opened up! From the Note, tap on Share icon provided at the right corner of your iPhone’s screen.
  • From the next window, select ‘Save Option’ which will save photos in the Photos app from Note.
