Like several other things in our life, we realize the significance of an alarm only when it stops working. Because you’ve landed at the right place, where we’ll guide you through some simple and quick solutions!

How to Fix Alarm Not Working on iPhone or iPad in iOS 12 or 11?

But for those who haven’t yet tried out anything, we have listed down a host of solutions from scratch. So, without taking even an extra minute of your time, let you present you with the steps to fix the alarm issue on your iPhone or iPad when it suddenly stops working.

  • Check the ‘Mute’ Option

First and foremost,  you need to perform the most basic action, that is, to check the ‘Mute’ switch. Make sure that the Mute switch is disabled; if not, then turn off the Mute option on your device.

  • Adjust Volume

Sometimes, most of our mistakes are silly and the solution that we’re working upon is complex! This one is certainly one solution that might seem quite simple but many-a-times it has proven to be very effective. iPhone provides you with the facility that enables you to turn up the volume using side buttons. Without increasing the Alarm volume, you can control the sound using two different sets of control performed by the same switch.

For example, if you are listening to any song, and meanwhile, you decide to turn up the volume, you can increase the volume for the music app. This event won’t increase the volume of the Alarm. Hence, irrespective of the lower alarm volume, you can still increase the music volume. This will make you listen to a low or silent Alarm. Follow the steps mentioned below to adjust the Alarm volume:

STEP 1:  Launch the ‘Settings’ app
STEP2:  Click on the ‘Sounds & Haptic’ tab
STEP3:  Ensure that Ringer and Alerts are set to an audible sound
STEP 4:  Turn off the ‘Change with Buttons’ option. So, changing the volume buttons will not bring any changes to the sound volume of the Alarm.
  • Delete the Third-Party Alarm Apps

If you are using any third-party app for alarms, we recommend you to uninstall them from your device. Maybe, such apps may create trouble with the in-built clock app of the iPhone, which might lead to the ‘No Alarm Sound’ issue. Simply press and hold on the app and then tap the ‘X’ button to delete it. Confirm your selection when asked through the pop-up.

  • Reset All Settings
    reset all settings

In certain cases, resetting all your settings does work wonderfully. And this is surely one such case. You can start your iOS device to factory settings. It will clear all the Wi-Fi passwords and website logins, that can be easily added later. On the other hand, if you have performed a backup of your device, your data along with media content will remain as it is. Follow the steps mentioned below to reset the device settings:

STEP 1: Launch ‘Settings’ app
STEP2: Go to ‘General’ tab
STEP 3: Tap on ‘Reset All Settings’ and confirm your selection
  • Reboot Your Device

Restarting the device is one of the most common ways used to solve a minor technical issue. It can clear minor software glitch as well. Try rebooting your device and check whether the issue is fixed or not. To do so, follow the below steps:

STEP 1: Hold down the power button until the power-off slider appears

OR

For iPhone 8 and later model users: Press & hold the power button and volume down button to get the power-off slider at work.

iPhone reboot

STEP 2:  Swipe to the left to turn off the device.

  • Increase the Alarm Sound

In some iPhone handsets, the sound of the alarm is comparatively calmer. And if that is the case with you then there isn’t any chance to fix it. But you must first confirm that the ‘None’ option isn’t chosen as the alarm sound. But before you frown here, let us share a few simple steps to follow to ensure that there isn’t any error in the sound settings.

STEP 1: Launch ‘Clock’ app on your device

STEP2: Go to the ‘Alarm’ tab

STEP 3: Tap on ‘Edit’

STEP4: Select the Alarm for which you wanted to have a new sound for

STEP 5: Head to the Sound and preview the track of your preference

  • Check Alarm’s Time Settings

Checking the alarm’s time settings is probably one of the foremost things to do. Sometimes, it happens so that you end-up setting an incorrect time & date set. Also, make sure that the set alarm is not on the silent sound mode. Also, if it’s about the repeat mode, it’s good to check if you’ve double-checked into its settings as per your expectations.

In order to check for such settings, follow the below-mentioned steps:

STEP 1: Tap on ‘Edit’ in the Alarm catalog of the Clock application

STEP2:  Go to the specific Alarm you want to alter

STEP 3: Go to ‘Repeat’ settings and ensure that there’s a checkmark against the days of the week for which you want the Alarm to stay off

STEP4: Tap on a specific day to empower/disable the alert for that day

Alarm Sound set

If your alarm shuts off at an inappropriate time during the day, then there’s a possibility that you have made a wrong selection between AM & PM. Make the correct modifications here. And once done see to it that you save it.

  • Disable Bedtime Features

iPhone provides users with the facility to set bedtime. However, when both bedtimes and alarm time are equivalent, it is possible to hear nothing. Either disable the ‘Bedtime’ feature on your iPhone, or you can change the time which differs from the alarm time. Those who don’t know how to find a bedtime feature can follow the steps mentioned below:

Disable Bedtime Features

STEP 1:  Launch the ‘Clock’ app

STEP 2: Go to ‘Bedtime’ tab

STEP 3: Either disable the Bedtime feature or set a new time.

  • Delete and Reset the Alarm

More often than not, the iPhone fails to create an alarm due to some undefined reason. This may happen because of some software glitch. During such issues, your alarm may work for a certain period of time and then goes off because of the incompatibility issues caused by iOS updates. In order to resolve such an issue, follow the below-mentioned steps of resetting the alarm on your iPhone:

STEP 1: Launch ‘Clock’ app on your iOS device

STEP2: Go to the ‘Alarm’ tab

STEP 3: Swipe to the left to delete the active alarm

OR

Tap on ‘Edit’ & click on the red (-) button for delete option

STEP 4: To add a new alarm, you need to tap on (+) button which is provided on the top right corner within the Clock app.

  • Use Only One Alarm Clock App

Since smartphones allow you to install multiple applications, users tend to download various third-party apps for one single function. So, if you are using another app instead of the default iPhone app for creating an alarm, then it may cause you to face such sound issues. In such a situation, we highly recommend you to use the default app. However, if you want to use a third-party app, then it is better to disable the iPhone’s alarm app to eliminate the possibility of an Alarm issue.

In any case, know that outsider alert applications don’t work in coordination with your iPhone. This implies that you need to keep the application open for the alert sound to ring, just like you have to make use of the system volume(not the ringer) to modify the sound volume.

If even after disabling the third-party app, you happen to face the same issue, then you need to delete that app completely. After that, restart your device and check whether your issue is fixed or not!

Turn-off Bluetooth and Unplug Headphones

Bluetooth off

As you know, the iPhone alarm volume is always audible through the system’s speakers. But, in such a case, due to a software glitch, it may be Audible through only the Bluetooth headphones. Though, it is one of the rarest possibilities that Alarm sound would play through the Bluetooth device, which is connected with your iPhone. But, it can happen if the system is shot by a bug.

In order to overcome such a software glitch, make sure that you do either unplug any device that is attached to the iPhone or turn off the Bluetooth for disconnecting the respective Bluetooth device from your iPhone. Follow the below-mentioned steps to implement the above solution:

STEP 1:  Launch ‘Settings’ app on your device

STEP2:  Tap on Bluetooth and turn it off.

STEP 3:  You also need to unplug any device attached with a Headphone Jack.

Now, check whether your issue is fixed or not!
